The region of Hamakua includes approximately 50 miles along the northern coast of the island of Hawaii. The coastal communities of Hamakua stretch from the Kohala districts on the north down to Hilo at the south. Other main cities included are Honokaa, Paauilo, Ooakla, Laupahoehoe, Papaaloa, Hakalau, Honomu, Pepeekeo and Papaikou.
